Zoro the Drummer - Not Your Stereotypical Rock Star!
World famous rock star Zoro has been in the spotlight seated behind some of the most celebrated artists in music history - Earth, Wind & Fire, Lenny Kravitz, Sean Lennon, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Lisa Marie Presley, The New Edition, Bobby Brown, Jody Watley, Philip Bailey and, Vanessa Paridis.
And on 23 September 2007, Zoro came to Poynton to demonstrate his amazing drumming skills, performing live at the Hockley Centre. And this was a special drum concert, open to all to attend free of charge! Earlier that day, Zoro ran a workshop for the worship team which was very enthusiastically received.
A man of great humility and deep faith, Zoro also shared some of his life story and the difference that his faith in God has made in his approach to life!
Zoro grew up in a broken home with six brothers and sisters and only a single mother to raise them. As a result of the abandonment and rejection he experienced as a child, he developed a need to win acceptance and approval from others. It was from his brokenness that God became real to him and filled the role of a father in his heart
Zoro eventually became an internationally known rock star and the consummate definition of the rare man who marches to the beat of a different drum. According to Rhythm Magazine, Modern Drummer and Drum! Zoro is now established as the world’s No One R&B Drummer, and travels widely conducting national and international drum clinics and has also authored a best-selling book/DVD package “The Commandments of R&B Drumming” – the ultimate lesson from the master.
The “Minister of Groove” has been the subject of dozens of print, radio and television stories for more than two decades. He has been described as tenacious, dedicated, and passionate – qualities that stand out to anyone who crosses his path. Not your stereotypical rock star, Zoro is a positive role model whose example of hard work and clean living has served as an inspiration to generations.
